The fetal pose is a representation of a child-like fear of the outside world and our own inner thoughts that sometimes degrade us. From there, using Adobe Photoshop, I desaturated the image and then re-added saturation to just the body of the subject, leaving a light pink hue. In this first work, I photographed the subject using a DSLR Camera at a bird’s eye view angle.
#DATAMOSH GIF MAKER SERIES#
This series is an exploration of emotions involving inner conflict, anxiety, and depression using distortion and glitch.
If you are not able to read about these topics, please just review the photos themselves, without reading. TRIGGER WARNING: I will be speaking about topics along the lines of depression, anxiety attacks, emotional distress, emotional conflict and physical endangerment. The moon is something we see all the time and learn about from such a young age-to think about such widely accepted information being based on a lie is enthralling to say the least. My goal for this assignment was to combine the use of modern technology with an object that people might not pay attention to on a day-to-day basis. I used different glitch effects on each layer to give it the effect of an overload malfunction as well as used relevant/accurate terminology in the error code. I incorporated the well-known original “Windows blue screen of death” to promote the idea that the moon hologram has been active for an extremely long period of time. I used procreate to separate the photo into various layers followed by drawing each layer to make the animation as seem-less as possible. The photograph I used to start (shown below) was one that I captured with a Sony A7ii near the amphitheater at Flamingo Key in the Everglades. If I had more time to continue this project I would make GIFs of every glitch and make the slight distortions move around the composition.įor this final glitch assignment, I decided to pursue the enthralling theme of conspiracy theories-in this case that the moon is a hologram. To make the final compositions I took every photo into Photoshop and did a mix of overlaying the pictures, using effects like “solarize”, changing the opacity in each picture and using different combinations of blending modes. To make the distortion I went into and played with the different distortions they had available, I went as far as making different versions of the same glitch. To take the photo I used a Nikon 3000 camera and touched up the photo using Photoshop and Lightroom. I wanted to show more clearly just how it felt to be living through that time so I thought distorting the photos might help showcase that state of mind.
For my project I chose a set of pictures I took during the lockdown part of the pandemic last year, comparing the set of pictures with some others I had taken earlier that year I realized just how much of what I was feeling can be shown in the photos, however, I always felt there was something missing from these compositions.
